Recently, many emails have been sent by unknown accounts displaying my name as the sender. Typically, these emails are asking the recipient to urgently help me with something important and once the recipient responds, they reply asking for money to be sent or gift cards to be purchased and forwarded.
Please be advised these are messages are not legitimate. They are phishing emails, and are not being sent by the FGHA, or through an FGHA email account. The scammers seem to be grabbing email addresses that are published on our website and sending the emails to those people. In some cases, the fraudsters even structure the email to use names of other members of the board to give extra legitimacy to the emails. These emails are not coming from me, so please do not respond.
Always, protect yourself online and before responding be sure double check the sender's email address (click on the sender's name to see the email account details) to see if the message is legitimate. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre allows you to report fraud and cybercrime online, click here.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
